Nowadays, students attach little importance to the study of Chinese.

There are three reasons contributing to this phenomenon. First of all, the importance of English has been over-stressed by the society as globalization has made the whole world a village and English has become the dominant language in the world. Our attention has been drawn to the learning of English, and thus the study of Chinese has been neglected. Besides, colleges have encouraged students to spend more time on the study of English; while on the contrary, on campus we seldom have Chinese classes. Limited concern has been put on the learning of Chinese. What's more, it is natural to neglect the study of Chinese due to the wrong impression that as native speakers, we all have a good command of Chinese. This phenomenon will do harm to the development of our culture in the long run.

Measures should be taken to improve the situation. To begin with, government should pay more attention to the promotion of Chinese culture so that people, young and old, can learn more and be proud of our own language. Moreover, both the schools and the students should attach great importance to the study of Chinese. (190 words)

音苍老而沙哑。“是姥爷！怎么姥爷也学起了英语，可真是奇怪呀！”我带着疑问走到了阳台上。

我简直不敢相信自己的眼睛：只见姥爷捧着一本英语书一本正经的朗读，表哥正在旁边一边认真地听着，一边点着头呢！老爷读完了，表哥就像一位小老师似地说：“学了这么多，累了吧？学以致用，学英语主要为了应用。今天我教你一个单词，注意我发音时的口形。yes！yes！也就是‘是’的意思。”

“yes！yes！yes···”老爷反复认真的读着，尽管念得不是很标准，可就他这年龄来看也够好的了。

中午，姥姥做饭时，发现酱油用完了，看到姥爷坐在沙发上正悠闲的读英语，就大声喊着：“老伴，快去买酱油！”姥爷愣了一下，“酱······酱油？”然后醒悟似地马上站起来，举起手向姥姥敬了个礼，说了一声：“Yes！”“耶丝，什么是耶丝？”姥姥一脸疑惑，我和表哥却忍不住大笑起来。

Guilin is a place of breath-taking scenery. From ancient times,Guilin has been noted for its elegant landscape. It features beautiful mountains,clear rivers,grotesque rocks and mystic crags,which is a feast for the eyes. Sitting on a bamboo raft drifting down the river,visitors can see the varied shapes of the pinnacles reflected in the water. They will feel as if they were in a scroll of Chinese landscape painting. I believe that my foreign friend will marvel at the unparalleled beauty of Guilin.

紧接着，老师介绍了打卡的时间为二十一天，每天大声朗读三十分钟，如果有一天没打，就算弃权，如果打卡成功，则奖励十元钱。"

我听后，心里一阵小激动："啊！十元钱，那可以买好多零食呀！"于是，我毫不犹豫地举手报了名。

可是，一回家我就后悔了，打卡时嘴不停地念着，一下也不能停下来，读得我口干舌燥，心慌意乱，嗓子冒烟，我真后悔呀，真是自找罪受！

第二天，我又硬着头皮读了起来，但是，这次已不像第一次那么难受了，读完后甚至感觉轻松了好多。

就这样，日复一日，渐渐地，打卡成了我每天生活的一部分，我的英语朗读水平逐渐得到了提高，朗读起来也越来越流利，妈妈听了以后还以为是放录音呢。

录音打卡过程虽然有些辛苦，但是很充实，很快乐，还使我的朗读水平提高了，还得到了妈妈的表扬，我为自己的坚持点赞，这不正是“宝剑锋从磨砺出，梅花香自苦寒”来吗？

different students learn english for different purposes. most of the students learn english because they need to read english textbooks or journals and attend english lectures, while a few students use it to talk to english-speaking visitors, attend seminars, or write letters and reports.

whatever the purposes are, one thing is certain: students need english, and english teaching should be strengthened in universities. however, the current teaching methods should be improved and the teaching materials should be updated to satisfy their needs.
