promoted by the fast growing economy, china has witnessed the prosperity in other aspects as well in the past few years, esp. in foreign-related tourism. as can be seen from the graph, from 1995 to 1997, the number of the foreigners traveling to china, mainly including americans, japanese and others, remained level. with the development of the economy, however, in 1998 it rose sharply and reached 260,000. from 1998 to 1999, there was a rapid increase and more and more people from different countries began to travel in china.

it was the open door policy that brought about the prosperity in tourism, especially after 1997, when more chinese cities opened to the outside world to encourage foreigners to visit china and to promote cultural echanges, as a result, more and more foreigners take interest in chinas development and its traditional culture, which attract them to china.

it is well known that china has decided to open her door wider than ever before to the world. the government will adopt a series of new policies to encourage more travelers to visit china. steady increase in the number of foreign visitors will be epected in the near future.

The hair style of high school students has been a controversial issue for many years. The prescribed plain short hair may look tidy, but the insistence on the hair length below the ear lobe in the case of girl students, which is fixed at one centimeter or at most two, is quite unnecessary. Until recently, the Mayor of Tainan had tried to persuade the Ministry of Education to give the high schoolers the carte blanche to determine their own hair styles.

It is difficult for us to say if the idea is right or wrong. So far as I am concerned, problems of the young are not confined to such a small matter as hair style; what matters is the reinforcement of the students' moral consciousness, the way they should behave, and the like. The length of their hair or whether they have the right to give it a permanent wave is relatively unimportant. Cleanness and neatness is what really matters. There is hardly anything that stays unchanged all the time. Why doesn't the concerned authority reconsider this hair business? Maybe the bickerings that sour the relations between the military instructors and their students will therefore be gone. By the way, to improve one's appearance is nothing wrong, is it? We all expect to see a new look of the young. Maybe a change in the concerned authority's policy toward the high schoolers' hair style will bring this about.

Western festivals and China’s traditional ones

With rapid spreading of western cultures, there is a growing number of Chinese people prefer western holidays to traditional ones. When Christmas or Valentine Day comes, youngsters flood into bars, restaurants, or department stores to celebrate these festivals, while they know little about Chinese traditional festivals.

The reason behind such kind social phenomenon is obvious: in a society dominated by mass media and consumerism, festivals and holidays from abroad are labeled as fashionable, new and unique, while traditional ones are something out of date and old. Young people all over the world have regarded western life style especially the life depicted in Hollywood films as their ultimate goal of life. As a consequence it is no wonder that Chinese young people have much more passion on Christmas than China’s Spring Festival.

We should think about the influence of such a social phenomenon carefully. As far as I am concerned, it is obvious that the wide spread and recognition of western holidays is definitely doing harm to our traditional value. If we don’t take some measures right now, some day in future, Chinese cultural heritage may be alien to our offspring. It is high time for the government and all people to take some action to protect our traditional culture.

The dream is something that the people of the whole country have in common. In the darkness, a lamp that lights up is a dream.

How can a person not dream? No dream, there is no goal of struggle; no dream, life plain water. I do not know why, but do not know why. In fact, there is a dream is not difficult, as a successor to the twenty-first century, as the hope of the motherland, to set up a lofty ideals.

September 1, 20xx, is the beginning of a new school year. I and my school students watched by the Central Television and the Ministry of Education recorded with the "first class". This year, "the first lesson" theme is "my dream dream of China."

What is the dream? Is the idea of a dream, or the idea of my own action? I have been on the "dream" of the word know nothing, until you see the "first class", I understand ... ...

Star is still brilliant, passion is still burning. Because there is a dream, so we exist, the dream is a long process, only a sprint of the fierce, is running endless meters long; waiting for the harvest, can only get zero dead branches and leaves, so there is a dream We must practice for their own dreams in practice, adhere to the dream, to achieve the dream.

Standing at the foot of the Great Wall, we have endless words, looking at the vast clouds, we seem to want to say to the Great Wall: my - China dream! Look at the looming housing, watching the distant lights still blurred Light, do you want to cry loudly: I have a dream, there is a beautiful dream? This is the heart of the heart of the cry, which is from the heart of the voice, which is from the heart of passion!

China has the largest population in the world. As there are many China-towns in the world, it shows that Chinese people are everywhere, because the traditional idea advocates that the more children, the better for a family. While the situation is opposite in the western country, they chase for freedom and individuality. Having more children is burden for them, and some people choose to be single all the time. So the birth rate is really low in western countries, such as Canada. The government even inspires people to have babies, and they promises to offer prizes like money and baby stuff, but the birth rate still the same, even worse. In my opinion, everybody has the choice to decide whether to be a parent. If they love children, then they can raise more according to the financial situation.

The spring festival is Chinese most traditional festival every 365 days. Each Chinese pay much attention on it. Every year about 15 days before spring festival, the migrate works and white-collars are beginning crowded home-returning.

But, in recent years, with the development of the world, many different attitudes between the young and the old towards the spring festival come forth. The old are still pay more attention to the spring festival, but the young gradually change the mode to spend thEir spring festival holiday, such as travel overseas.

When I am a childhood, I celebrated the spring festival with my family about a month in my winter vacation in traditional way, such as helping cleaning our houses, putting red couplets on gates, setting off firecrackers, and wear new clothes. Now, I spend only 4 or 5 days at home with my parents in celebrating the spring festival, then I will hurry back to work. Maybe in the near future, I will have no time celebrating spring festival hometown, and my parents have to come to stay with us in the city.

Whether or no, I like the spring festival. It is one of the most important part of our Chinese culture. However busy I am, I will try my best to celebrating it with the traditional way to protect those our ancestor has leave behind..cOm

Foreigners’ Impression On Chinese [

Nowadays, Chinese people are everywhere, on the one hand, they like to travel and on the other hand, the population is very large. But foreigners’ impression on Chinese is not always good. The media have reported the negative incidents that were brought by Chinese tourists, and many foreigners have given their opinion and criticized the tourists’ behavior. It is true that many Chinese people haven’t realized their bad behavior, such as talking loudly in the public occasion. As we have the large population, so not every people has the chance to receive good education. What’s more, the foreign media just reported the bad side while ignoring the good side, so the foreign people always think Chinese people are rude. We admit that we are not doing well enough and we need to behave ourselves. And I believe that a wise man will make his own judgment when he communicate with Chinese.

Will Christmas Replace the Spring Festival?

Christmas arouses increasing attention year by year in China. Christmas cards become popular with students. People hold Christmas parties and exchange Christmas girts. A lot or TV and radio programs about Christmas are on. Meanwhile the Spring Festival is less appealing (具有吸引力的)to youngsters. Thus some people wonder whether Christmas will replace the Spring Festival.

This worry is fairly unnecessary. Why ? One reason lies that Christmas only affects Christians, college students and joint-venture (合资企业)workers. Another reason is that Christmas is mostly celebrated in cities. Few people in countryside show extreme interest in this exotic(富有异国情调的) festival. By contrast, the Spring Festival is the most influential traditional festival in every family.

I think,it is natural that with increasing exchanges with the West,a lot of Western holidays have been gradually introduced into China. For us Chinese we should never neglect or even discard our own traditional festivals. For centuries Chinese have observed this traditional holiday to welcome the beginning of a new year. And we will treasure the Spring Festival forever.

Some industry insiders claim, “China which used to be a state on two wheels will some day be a state on four wheels.” With the level of life raised, more families will prefer to buy cars. Cars provide speed, comfort and convenience in getting around. As the product of modern civilization, cars are likely to play a vital part in daily activities of Chinese.Obviously, cars, like anything else, have more than one face to families in China. Lets have a closer look at the present situation. We may find that though some people can afford them, crowded streets, limited parking lots and costly maintenance are headaches to private car drivers.

Although private car drivers have some troubles, driving a car indicates the trend of modern living. With low tax, sufficient highway development and parking lots, cars are bound to be household vehicles with high performance. Then private cars will enjoy more popularity.
