Grades are not Everything

I don’t think grades are important. Students have different abilities and some of them can’t be measured by grades, such as creativity, abilities to communicate and act.

To start with, I wasn’t good at English and seldom got high scores on the exams. But one day, my teacher encouraged me to perform in an English play because of my good pronunciation and lively expressions. To perform well, I studied my lines many times and even dressed up like the character. While we were performing, I could hear my classmates cheering. How excited! Later, my teacher praised me for my wonderful acting and this made me more confident and interested in English.

All in all, grades can be a way to measure students’ achievements in schoolwork. However, different interests and abilities can make a students a full man.

But my favorite is the lake in my hometown.

At noon, I went for a walk along the lake with my father and mother, and I saw a lot of happy fish playing happily in the lake.

Slowly, we found ourselves immersed in the black world with the whole lake.

The white moon climbed up the hill, you see, the lake fish bed, calm lake like a mirror, many stars embedded in the mirror, how beautiful ah!

Home of the lake was really clear, clear, almost can see the lake, spotless, snow on the lake, like pearls dotted the lake; home really quiet ah, like a large glass, in the sun, the lake glittering, dazzling; hometown a beautiful lake ah, let people forget, the scenery is like an earthly paradise.

I love my hometown, this beautiful lake, and I love my hometown more.

My grandpa is a retired worker. On summer evenings, we often sat together outside the house enjoying the cool air. It was the time that he told me lots of his experiences before liberation, some of which I've forgotten, but there is one I'll remember forever.

When my grandpa was fourteen years old, he worked in a coal mine. One day, when he and his two workmates were working in the tunnel an unfortunate thing suddenly happened. A part of the tunnel fell down, and they were shut in it. They had no food to eat. When they were hungry they only drank some water there. It was very cold in it. I order to keep warm they hugged one another. In the darkness, they didn't know whether it was day or night, they only felt they had stayed there for a very long time. They were too hungry to speak or move, and thought they would die. At last, the tunnel was dug through. They were saved. They had been there for fourteen days!

My grandpa said they had not been let out at once. If so, they would have died. They were kept at the entrance to the tunnel where it was very dim, and they were fed with some thin porridge. After a day or two, they had recovered a bit, and they were helped out.

After liberation, my grandpa worked very hard, and he was elected as an advanced worker every year. He is also a people representative of our city. He is loved and respected by everyone who knows him, and he lives the rest of his life happily.
