The discussion about electronic dictionaries has never stopped in the past few years. Let‘s have a look at its advantages and disadvantages before drawing the final conclusion.
The biggest advantage of an electronic dictionary is its convenience. Whenever you meet new words or expressions, you can know the meaning quickly. What‘s more, with the development of science and technology, electronic dictionaries are becoming more and more advanced: they can pronounce the words clearly, provide sample sentences to illustrate word usage and store difficult words for special memorization. Last but by no means the least, electronic dictionaries are becoming cheaper and cheaper, and more and more students can afford them.
However, the negative effects are also obvious. To begin with, some students rely too much on the electronic dictionary—they never put their heart into learning new words and expressions. In the second place, some explanations are neither complete nor accurate, which are quite misleading. Finally, new technical inventions do not necessarily lead to progress in learning. Diligence is always the decisive factor, because "there is no royal road to learning".
Up until now, we can see it clearly that an electronic dictionary is not beneficial or harmful in itself. The key lies in the user—so long as we can make proper use of it, it can be most helpful to us in many respects.

Scores are undoubtedly important for students. So today when I saw the score, 96,on my Chinese test paper, my happiness was beyond words. I believed that mum would also be very happy and perhaps she would reward me.
As soon as I got home, I raised the test paper before mum and said proudly, "Mum, look at my score!" Out of my expectation,Mum said calmly, "Good, but I hope you can find out the reason why four points were taken away." Hearing the words, I stood in amazement at first. Then I understood Mum’s words and nodded with all my strength.
Then Iunderstood that the most important thing that we get from examinations is not whether we have got high scores but whether we know what we have grasped and what we haven’t.
A new supermarket in our neighbourhood has started business recently. It is only five minutes' walk from our college.Ding Hua asked me to go shopping with her,or rather,to see what the new supermarket was like.
We went there yesterday. It was spacious, clean, tidy and brightly lit. There were row upon row of goods shelves filled with various kinds of goods. Two girl shop-assistants sat at two check-outs.Some other assistants were replenishing the shelves. But there were some who were just chatting with each other or just keeping watch on the customers.
We moved about, looking at the attractive things on the shelves. But we only bought a few articles,Ding Hua chose a pair of slippers, and I picked up a bag of washing powder and a bottle of pickle.
It is easy and convenient shoppiing in a supermarket. The first of those supermarkets were introduced into our cities from the developed countries only a couple of years ago, which shows that our economics are developing rapidly. But we think the quality of the staff members is to be raised. As far as we know,no shop assistants are chatting with each other or keeping watch on the customers in the supermarkets in developed countries.
